Historical Summary
Organized in late 1864, the 1st Battalion Maine Sharpshooters served during the Siege of Petersburg. They participated in the Appomattox Campaign, including the Battle of Five Forks, before being consolidated with the famous 20th Maine Volunteer Infantry in June 1865.
