Historical Summary
Originally formed as Hale's 31st, this unit was officially the 49th Alabama but sometimes recorded as the 52nd. They fought fiercely at Shiloh, endured the punishing siege of Port Hudson where many were captured, and later battled through the Atlanta Campaign and John Bell Hood's disastrous Tennessee offensive.
